The Lewisville Noon club presented another round of checks for grant funding to area nonprofits last week, demonstrating Rotary’s commitment to philanthropy both locally and globally.

Membership director Megan Insco from Cross Timbers YMCA said the grant funds will go to support children who otherwise can’t afford to attend the organization’s summer camps. The YMCA also will be holding its annual Senior Prom on April 18th, and all eligible Rotarians are encouraged to attend.

Alex Buck’s son, Eiler, and Jordan Drake, CEO of Special Abilities of North Texas, accepted the check on behalf of the charity. “These funds will help provide support, services, and supplies for all the ACEs we serve,” said Drake. ACE stands for "Adults Creating Excellence," and the nonprofit currently serves 95 individuals and has nearly 100 more on a waiting list.

Rotarian Bill Lawrence’s wife, Grace, accepted the grant donation on behalf of Lewisville Lake Symphony, which holds numerous musical events throughout the year, including youth programs, four symphony concerts, and four chamber concerts. “We now do badges for Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts,” said Lawrence of a new initiative at the symphony, which will be using the funds to support various youth programs.

Lewisville Police Foundation will be using this year’s donation to upgrade the organization’s website to educate visitors about the foundation’s commitment to support families of law enforcement officers who die in the line of duty. The 501(c)(3) also wants to help Lewisville PD staff and family members dealing with a critical illness.

Dr. Randy Canivel, executive director of the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation (LEF), said the non-profit will be using the grant funds for college scholarships to graduating seniors from Lewisville ISD, as well as other initiatives.

Lastly, Communities in Schools North Texas once again received a donation to further the organization's mission of empowering local youth to stay in school and thrive in life. Director of grant development Anna Sung and CEO Tasha Moore said the funds would be used to support nearly two dozen site coordinators, who help support more than 2000 students at partner campuses in Lewisville ISD.

“We’d like for those receiving checks to consider volunteering at our annual golf tournament,” said donations committee member Audrey Stansbury, during the check presentations. She added, “The more money we raise the more we give away.”
