30 Years of Service
On January 10th, Noon Rotary recognized Lewisville Police Officer Larry Lunsford for his outstanding service to the citizens of our community.
Over Officer Lunsford's 30 years of service, he has mentored numerous young officers, modeled community policing, and shown special interest in ensuring the safety of our school zones.
Officer Lunsford will retire at the end of this month. Noon Rotary is grateful for his three decades of Service Above Self!
On January 10th, Courtney Cross, Director of Homelessness Initiatives for the United Way of Denton County, presented the history of this relatively new program and the work they are doing in Denton County.
The Denton County Homelessness Leadership Team (DCHLT), launched in 2016 and mobilized through the Cities of Denton and Lewisville, along with the Denton County Commissioners Court, responding to the United Way's loss of a $600,000 Emergency Solutions Grant.
Through the DCHLT, the United Way uses data-driven, evidenced-based, fiscally responsible recommendations that provide innovative solutions around affordable housing, providing access to primary and behavioral health care services, adequate incomes and coordinated services that mobilize, advocate for, and empower public-private community-wide collaboration.
The DCHLT fosters an effective and coordinated system of homelessness prevention and intervention, resulting in homelessness that is rate, brief and nonrecurring.
To learn more about the DCHLT, their strategic plan, how to donate to the Denton County Barriers Fund, or volunteer with their Point-In-Time Count of the homeless in Denton County (to be conducted on Jan. 25, 2018), visit the DCHLT homepage.
Kerbow Retiring in August
On January 10th, our very own Noon Rotarian, Chief Russ Kerbow, shared his intentions to retire in August from the Lewisville Police Department after 40 years of service. The Chief has lived a life that exemplifies public service and Service Above Self!
Congratulations to the Chief and his wife Becky on their upcoming plans to travel and spend more time with their family!
