Thank you Mr. Kim!
Michael Kim joined the LNR as our guest speaker from past president, Melissa DeWitt, talking about our parks here in the City of Lewisville.  Mr. Kim told the LNR about how successful the Disc Golf courses are to our community, and how large the Disc Golf community really is!   The Lewisville Rotarians were able to contribute to the parks and have some great new equipment for the recreational spaces.
Tom Moore

Fellow Rotarians,

As many of you know, Tom lost his battle with esophageal cancer on Thursday last week.  Please keep Jan and the entire Moore family in your prayers.  Below is the obituary information.  We will all miss Tom.

Thomas D. Moore, Jr., age 66, of Highland Village, passed away April 15, 2021, from complications of esophageal cancer. He fought his disease valiantly, determined to be triumphant. Yet, healing on earth was not to be.

Tom was born May 11, 1954 in Memphis, TN, to Dorothye N. Moore and Dr. Thomas D. Moore. He grew up in Memphis, graduating from Memphis University School, where he served as 1972 Class Valedictorian. He received an A.B. with distinction from Duke University, majoring in Economics and Public Policy Studies. He received his M.B.A. from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He received a J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law, where he was Executive Editor of Vanderbilt Law Review. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1981. He practiced law for the past 40 years, in Dallas and Denton Counties, specializing in a broad variety of general business and transactional matters, and estate planning.

While a resident of Swiss Avenue Historic District, Tom served on Old East Dallas Coalition, Old East Dallas Renaissance Coalition and Swiss Avenue Alliance Against Crime. He worked with property owners, neighbors and neighborhood associations in zoning and land use controversies, negotiating passage of planned development district ordinances and amendments. After moving to Highland Village, in 1999, Tom served on City of Highland Village Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (Chair 2007-2013) and Board of Directors of Highland Village Library Foundation. He served on Board of Directors of Youth and Family Counseling. He was a past member of Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce, and Leadership Flower Mound. He was a very active member of Lewisville Noon Rotary, serving as member and chair of numerous committees and club President (2010-2011). He was also a member of Denton Bridge Studio, spending time playing his favorite card game.

Tom attended Good Shepherd Episcopal Church of Dallas, where he especially enjoyed Couples Club and Supper Club.

Having obtained the rank of Eagle Scout, as a youth, Tom continued to embody the Scout Law of being trustworthy, loyal, friendly, kind and courteous. He will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jan Spurgeon Moore, and son, Martin Moore, both of Highland Village; niece Elizabeth Cobb Houston, and nephews Oliver Cobb and Charles Cobb, all of Memphis, TN.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 23, 4:00pm, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 11122 Midway Road, Dallas, TX. Interment will be at a later date in Memphis, TN.

Memorials, to honor Tom’s life, may be made to the Music Fund of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Memphis University School, 6191 Park Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119, or charity of your choice.

Message From The President
July 13, 2020

Re:  President’s Message

Dear Lewisville Noon Rotarians,

It is my pleasure to extend you all a gracious and hearty welcome to the 2020-21 Rotary Year.  Without question, I am also excited, humbled and proud to take the helm in helping guide this great club’s future as your newly appointed President for the 2020-21 term.  Let me further take this opportunity to thank our immediate Past- President, John Kazor and his capable Board  for the exceptional leadership and service they have provided us in such a difficult past year.

As you know, we are currently in the midst of a global coronavirus pandemic crisis that few could have predicted the severity of pain and suffering it would present to our nation, business livelihoods, our families and also our Rotary Club.   For months, we have now been quarantined in our homes adjusting to the new normal of commuting to our living rooms and joining a myriad of Zoom meetings.  However, I am optimistic that this crisis may soon end for the better and provide us with opportunities for renewal and growth.  Meanwhile, the health and safety of our members will remain my top priorities.

Finally, the Rotary Theme this year is “Rotary Opens Opportunities” and one of my goals will be to focus on further strengthening our club by encouraging young Rotarians to consider becoming our club’s future leaders.  We have a challenging year ahead of us and I look forward to what we can accomplish together in continuing the Lewisville Noon Rotary tradition of exceptional leadership and service.  Again, thank you my fellow Rotarians for your trust and confidence in handing over your club to my and great Board members care for this year.

William C. “Bill” Lawrence
President, Lewisville Noon Rotary
Welcome New LNR, President Bill Lawrence!

Lewisville Noon Rotary,

Please join me in welcoming our newly appointed president, Bill Lawrence for the 2020-21 term!  We are excited to have you lead us into our new year!
Patriot Flag Program

Thanks to all our Patriot Flag subscribers for either renewing or adding flags this year.  Memorial Day marks the first of 5 holidays when the Lewisville Noon Rotary with a big help from the Boy Scouts post flags at businesses in Lewisville.  Rotarian James Lee recently snapped this photo with scouts putting out his flags this year.  Thanks for your support, James!
