Lewisville High School senior Donald Henderson was honored as the October 2021 Exceptional Student of the Month at last week's meeting. Donald's English teacher, Kaitlyn Juroska, proudly shared about her student's many achievements. In addition to earning straight As and having perfect attendance, Donald is a member of the school band, is on the leadership team, and works part-time at Walmart. He also considers himself the Fighting Farmers' #1 fan. Our club is proud to recognize Donald for his accomplishments and his positive impact at Lewisville High School school and in the community.
2021 Bond Election Could Have Major Impact in Lewisville

Lewisville Chief of Police Kevin Deaver and Lewisville Fire Chief Mark McNeal gave an overview of the 2021 bond election at last week's meeting and encouraged Rotarians to exercise their right to vote. In addition to matters related to state constitutional amendments, the joint general and special elections gave local residents the chance to weigh in on Proposition A, which would allocate a $95 million debt issuance for the construction and expansion of Lewisville's central public safety facility. If the proposition passes, the new complex will be located at the northwest corner of Main St & Valley Parkway, and will serve as the hub for police, fire, and emergency services.

The current fire department headquarters was built in 1975 and the police department headquarters in 1984. Both facilities were expanded in 1997 and now are showing signs of age, as well as being too small to accommodate the city's needs, given the continued population growth. The new complex would be tornado hardened and include a backup generator to ensure safety and adequate power in the event of a weather disaster or other outage, and would be large enough to allow room for expansion of all public safety departments in the immediate future.

A majority of "For" votes are needed for the bond to be approved. As of 7:00pm on November 2nd, election night results showed 1340 votes in favor of the bond issuance and 272 votes against. The latest results can be viewed online at https://results.enr.clarityelections.com/TX/Denton/111378/web.278093/#/summary.
Paul Harris Point Match Program is Back!
Want to become a Paul Harris Fellow or move up another level? From September 1 - December 31, 2021, for each dollar you give ($250 - $500) through the Rotary Foundation to the Annual Program Fund "share," District 5790 will match that with points. Since you already pay into the Paul Harris Foundation with your club membership dues, you could achieve Paul Harris status for as little as $250! The program is offered only once a year, and you don't want to miss this great opportunity. For more information, contact Steve Cox at stevec@door.net.
MISSED A MEETING?
If you want credit for a make-up, contact LNR Membership chair Terry Russell to let him know when and where you attended another Rotary club meeting, or the date and service activity that you participated in to count as a make up. You have two weeks before and two weeks after a missed meeting to make up for your absence. Make-ups are a great way to meet Rotarians from other clubs and become more engaged with the outreach activities we do in the local community!
