Lewisville Noon Honors Two Stellar High School Seniors
Exceptional Student of the Month Deborah Swasey was joined by her mother and her contact teacher, Les Dodson.

The Lewisville Noon club last week honored two stellar seniors from Lewisville High School (LHS). Deborah Swasey was recognized as the Exceptional Student of the Month and was awarded with a certificate for her achievement by club president Eyad Salloum (above far left) and Youth Committee chair Sue Bowman (far right).

“She’s very personable, friendly, comfortable talking to teachers, and always seems concerned for other students,” said special education teacher Les Dodson (second from right). The club was delighted to honor Deborah for her achievements and strength of character.

In addition, LHS Student Activities director Allison Stamey recognized Brianna Sibounheuang (pictured below with her parents) as the Student of the Month. Brianna is ranked #2 of 1100 students at LHS. She serves as president of the Interact club and president of the National Honor Society, is part of the High Five Initiative, and has played on the varsity soccer team for four years.

“She’s so deserving of this award,” said Stamey, adding, “Her service to our school is amazing and she’s so well respected by her teachers and fellow students.” Brianna is undecided on which college she will attend but plans to major in biology on a pre-med track. The Lewisville Noon club looks forward to celebrating all her future accomplishments.

LNR Celebrates Four Paul Harris Society Members
L to R: LNR president Eyad Salloum, Steve Cox, Greg Sidwell, Dwayne Middleton, District 5790 governor Pat Peters, Joe Irick, John Kazor, and Dr. Charles Ku

Rotary District 5790 governor Pat Peters visited the Lewisville Noon Rotary last week and joined club president Eyad Salloum, Foundation committee chair Steve Cox, and Rotarian John Kazor to present certificates to four Paul Harris Society members. The club congratulates Greg Sidwell, Dwayne Middleton, Joe Irick, and Dr. Charles Ku on their achievement. We are grateful for the generosity of these Rotarians and their commitment to supporting the philanthropic work of Rotary International both locally and globally.
Getting to Know Your Fellow Rotarians
As part of last week's Club Update, LNR president Eyad Salloum called on several club members to share about their involvement with the Lewisville Noon Club and what Rotary means to them.

In answer to the question why she loves Rotary, Mary Jennings held back tears as she said, “These people are my family.” She expressed her deep gratitude for club members’ support when she and her husband John lost their daughter and later adopted their granddaughters. On a lighter note, Jennings also confessed she is afraid of cows.

“I believe if I had not joined Rotary, I would not have found I have a servant’s heart,” said LNR president-elect Sue Bowman. She said she likely never would have been involved in volunteering and supporting nonprofits to the extent she currently is if she hadn’t been actively engaged with the Lewisville Noon club.

Audrey Stansbury confessed she didn't know what Rotary was when former member Doris Scales invited her to visit the club.  “I was not taught philanthropy when I was a kid,” Stansbury said, and only came to recognize the value of volunteering and community engagement as an adult. She was attracted to Rotary because “It was an organized way to give back to the community,” she noted.

Melissa DeWitt initially disliked the idea of joining a Rotary club, because her father had been District Governor and Rotary took up so much of his time when she was younger. But after being invited by Mary Jennings to visit the Lewisville Noon club, she gained a different perspective and has since gone on to be actively engaged in the organization, including serving as past president.

Steve Collins first joined Rotary in California more than 20 years ago and was diligent about finding a club to join after relocating to North Texas. “My purpose in Rotary is to serve our members so we can all better serve our community,” Collins said. He added, “I love that the money we contribute gets multiplied, and we can do God's work here locally and abroad. I would encourage you to go to an international conference to learn more and connect with others from around the world.”
