DCTA Making Great Strides
On May 16th, Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) president, Jim Cline (pictured below, center), shared the progress DCTA has been making in service expansions through collaborative efforts with Network Transport Companies (e.g. Lyft) that provide service to riders in off-peak hours when operating the trains or buses is too costly.
Cline also share that DCTA has also been successful in winning transportation contracts in neighboring Colin County, while insuring that those services are completely funded by the ridership in the new service areas.
Despite the positive growth in services in both the DCTA cities (Lewisville, Denton, and Highland Village) and in new areas, the agency still faces the challenge of gaining the "choice riders;" those riders who have a choice on whether or not to ride the train. When the job market is strong and gas is relatively cheap, those "choice riders" tend not to use public transportation.
DCTA continues to work with neighboring transportation authorities in Dallas and Tarrant counties, to provide the best possible regional services for DCTA's ridership. Unfortunately, those neighbor authorities are raising their rates, so DCTA is making adjustments to its own rates to minimize the impact felt by DCTA riders when traveling throughout the region.
According to Cline, the strategic placement of DCTA stations are starting to see new developments in their vicinity with many other significant developments (both in scope and dollars) in the works.
