Alexa Barretto Named Student of the Month
L to R: Rotarian and LHS principal Jim Baker, Janie Barretto and her daughter Alexa, and LNR Youth Committee chair Sue Bowman.

Congratulations to Lewisville High School (LHS) senior Alexa Barretto on being named the April Lewisville Noon Rotary Student of the Month. Barretto is in the top 50 of more than 1100 students in her graduating class and excels not only academically but as an active participant in school activities. She was voted Miss LHS and Most Likable among her fellow students, noted Baker, adding that Barretto also was a cheerleader for two years, volunteers with Circle of Friends, is the School Service Officer for the Student Council, and has been in the National Honor Society since her sophomore year. The members of Lewisville Noon are grateful for the opportunity to honor this outstanding young woman!

Allison Stamey Joins Lewisville Noon Club
After making countless appearances at the weekly Lewisville Noon Rotary meeting to honor students and teachers at Lewisville High School, Student Activities Director Allison Stamey (pictured above) has herself become the newest Rotarian in the club.

An educator for more than three decades, Stamey has been a proud Fighting Farmer for 28 years and is passionate about helping students succeed. Stamey's husband, Robert Jimenez, is a teacher at Parkway Elementary and the couple have three sons, all of whom graduated from LHS. The members of Lewisville Noon were proud and excited to witness club president Dennis Song induct Stamey into the club at last week's meeting, and wish her all the best.
Help Make the Big Fore Our Best Ever
Lewisville Noon's annual Big Fore Golf Tournament is just around the corner, and the Golf Committee needs your help to make this our biggest fundraiser yet!

Currently, Republic Services is on board as our Title Sponsor and ten other businesses already have committed as Major Sponsors. To help us reach our goals for a successful tournament, committee co-chairs Karen Johns and David Seaman and Major Sponsor chair Gary Lewis are asking each Rotarian to sell a Major Sponsor slot or refer a Major Sponsor prospect. Remember, all profits from the tournament go to support more than 20 local charities. With all Rotarians working together, we can break every fundraising record and bless even more nonprofits with grants from the club.

You can download the Big Fore Sponsor trifold brochure here, and print copies will be available at this week's meeting. Questions? Reach out to any of the Golf Committee organizers for help, and thank you in advance for doing your part to make this year's event a big success!
Two Rotarian Recognized for Gifts to Paul Harris Society
Rotary Foundation chair John Kazor (above right) last week recognized Steve Cox (center) with his Paul Harris +8 pin, the highest recognition for Paul Harris Fellows, and LNR club president Dennis Song for including the Rotary Foundation in his estate planning. The club thanks them both for their support of the Rotary Foundation!

The Power of a Pint

Red Cross account manager Tom Blute got Rotarians excited about the club’s upcoming blood drive, when he spoke as the guest presenter last week about the power of a pint.

Among its many outreach initiatives, the American Red Cross aims to help alleviate human suffering through biomedical services to make sure hospitals have the blood they need when they need it. Blood drives are part of the organization’s mission to save lives and can help thousands of people in the local community, from trauma victims to cancer patients. Blood drives are always needed, said Blute, adding that 67% of Americans can donate blood, based on factors like their age, weight, and health status, but only 3% do.

Lewisville Noon Rotary's annual blood drive is scheduled for June 9, 2023 from 10AM - 3PM at the Cross Timbers YMCA, 2021 Cross Timbers Rd., Flower Mound, TX 75028. If you are planning to donate blood, you should eat iron-rich foods, like red meat, poultry, fish, beans and spinach, for a few days before and stay well hydrated, said Blute. It’s also best to drink an extra four 8-ounce glasses of water prior to your appointment the day of the drive.

The club needs 30 people to volunteer and make the June 9th Blood Drive a success. To help spread the word or volunteer with the setup team or checking people in, please contact Dr. Michelle Martz. You can also download the free American Red Cross Blood Donor App to find nearby blood drives, schedule an appointment, and even learn exactly where your donation is sent.

FAMILY OF ROTARY

Please continue to pray for former Lewisville mayor Dean Ueckert, as he begins radiation treatment for throat cancer surgery.

Please also keep David Seaman and his family in your prayers as they mourn the recent passing of David's brother.

Please pray for the health and safety of Eyad Salloum's family members living in Syria, who still are without power and struggling day-to-day in the wake of massive earthquakes that killed tens of thousands across the region in early February. International sanctions are hindering aid from reaching survivors.

You can send any specific prayer requests or praise reports to be included here to Audrey Stansbury at audreystansbury@gmail.com.
