Linda Rangel-Gonzales from Communities in Schools North Texas (CISNT) presented an update at last week's LNR meeting on the food pantry program offered at several Lewisville ISD campuses. A non-profit organization supported by the Lewisville Noon Rotary, CISNT serves at risk students to help them complete their education through high school and have a greater chance of success in life. CISNT site coordinators provide case management services at schools from Gainesville to Bridgeport, Denton, Lewisville, and other local townships. In addition to conducting student assessments, they develop individualized student supports, and monitor and adjust the support services as needed. Support services range from mentorship and supportive counseling to academic support, family engagement, and health & human services support, including access to food pantries for students experiencing food insecurity. Nearly 2,000 students in north Texas schools are impacted by food insecurity this year, Rangel noted, and the food pantry program has provided vital assistance for those in need. Lewisville Noon Rotary provides assistance six school-based food pantries, including Hendrick Middle School, Delay Middle School, Durham Middle School, and three Lewisville High School campuses, and is proud to be a part of this critical initiative.
