Lewisville Noon Honors LISD Teacher Jessica Gonzales

Rotarian Sally Quezada last week presented Lewisville ISD teacher Jessica Gonzales with the vocational service award for May 2023, in recognition of her creativity, positivity, and love for Vickery Elementary School, where she teaches third grade.

Gonzales is in her fourth year at Vickery but her first as a STEM teacher. Now as part of the school’s Specials rotation, she can have the same incredible impact on all 635 Vickery Voyagers from Kindergarten to fifth grade as she has had with her third-grade students. Each lesson crafted by Gonzales not only challenges students academically, but also gives them opportunities to collaborate, use technology meaningfully, and tap into their curiosity and wonder. Her peers note that she also is a great cheerleader for the school, organizing surprises for teachers, including games and snacks, and co-hosting the morning announcements so all students and teachers can feel her positivity and energy as the day is getting started. Gonzales continues to grow into a true campus leader, and both Vickery and LISD are lucky to have her.
Denco 9-1-1 Executive Director Greg Ballentine Earns Blue Badge
LNR President Dennis Song last week presented Greg Ballentine with his Rotary International blue badge, officially welcoming him as a full-fledged member of the Lewisville Noon club. Ballentine is the Executive Director of Denco 9-1-1, which provides technologies, protocols, training programs, and community outreach initiatives that equip 9-1-1 telecommunicators to direct first responders to the scene throughout Denton County.
LNR Survey Guides Path Forward for Next Term

Incoming LNR club president Eyad Salloum last week presented the results of a recent club-wide survey, which will help guide the direction of the Lewisville Noon Rotary and future initiatives as the new board steps in this summer.

Among the highlights of the survey results, Salloum noted that more than 88 percent of respondents said they enjoy our weekly club meetings, while just under 57 percent said the club does a good job of involving new members. This reveals a great opportunity to get new members more plugged in with committees that serve the club and the community, he said.

Feedback on the diversity of the club was mixed, and exactly half of all respondents agreed that members are involved in a way that represents their skills. “We’d love for club members to give us ideas for what we can do,” said Salloum, adding, “It’s everybody’s club.” He also encouraged club members to suggest other fundraisers and service activities for the Lewisville Noon club to explore.

More than 84 percent of respondents agreed that our local service projects make a difference in the community, but only 43 percent agreed that the club sought input from its members. Salloum again encouraged club members to share their ideas with him and the various committee chairs. A little over half of respondents currently are serving on a committee, and a significant number of club members who answered the survey noted they would like to be involved with a committee to support the club’s initiatives.

The survey covered several other topics, including suggestions for social events, having a table at community events, volunteer opportunities at local nonprofit events, and other service opportunities. Salloum also shared the names and roles for incoming board members and duties of the board and each committee.

To request a copy of the complete survey results or get involved with a committee for the next term, reach out to Eyad Salloum via email.
