Nurse Lynn Campbell Receives Service Award

Club member Sally Quezada (above right) last week presented Lynn Campbell with the Vocational Service Award for April 2023. Campbell has been a registered nurse for 16 years and has spent the last seven years working as the school nurse at Marshall Durham Middle School in the Lewisville ISD. In addition to helping young students visiting her office due to an illness or injury, Campbell enjoys building relationships with the students to encourage healthy decisions.

Lewisville Noon Rotary recently expanded the vocations represented by the award to also recognize outstanding health care worker in the community and was delighted to honor Nurse Campbell for her steadfast commitment to the care of local youth.

Donations Committee member Mary Jennings last week presented grant checks to six more Denton County charities on behalf of the Lewisville Noon club. The latest recipients included:
  • Children’s Advocacy Center for North Texas, which supports kids who have been victims of child abuse. The funds will be used for direct client services, including transportation and emergency services for families. (https://cacnorthtexas.org)

  • Hearts for Homes, a Christian outreach providing no cost home repairs to very low income elderly residents in Denton County for as long as they live in the home. The funds will be used to help seniors in Lewisville. (www.heartsforhomes.org)

  • Winning the Fight, which raises awareness about drug use among teens and the risk of accidental overdose. Funds will be used for development of a four-week curriculum to educate parents about the dangers of Fentanyl. (https://wtf-winningthefight.org)

  • Lewisville ISD Education Foundation (LEF), which provides scholarships and practical support for local students. Funds will be used to pay for school supplies for LEF’s back to school program. (https://lisdef.com)

  • Lewisville Lake Symphony, which is celebrating its 40th year of putting on classical concerts for adults and special musical programs for young children. Funds will go toward overhead expenses and educational programs. (www.lewisvillesymphony.org)

  • Christian Community Action (CCA), which recently celebrated its 50 year anniversary. The nonprofit provides financial assistance to help people in crisis and prevent homelessness, as well as programs to prevent hunger, like Kids Eat Free. Funds will cover expenses to prevent one family from experiencing homelessness for one month. (https://ccahelps.org)
“Lewisville really takes care of their own,” said LNR president Dennis Song at the end of the program. He added, “We enjoy doing this and giving funds away. That’s why we’re here.”

Help Make the Big Fore Our Best Ever
Lewisville Noon's annual Big Fore Golf Tournament is just around the corner, and the Golf Committee needs your help to make this our biggest fundraiser yet!

Currently, Republic Services is on board as our Title Sponsor and a dozen other businesses already have committed as Major Sponsors. To help us reach our goals for a successful tournament, committee co-chairs Karen Johns and David Seaman and Major Sponsor chair Gary Lewis are asking each Rotarian to sell a Major Sponsor slot or refer a Major Sponsor prospect. Remember, all profits from the tournament go to support more than 20 local charities. With all Rotarians working together, we can break every fundraising record and bless even more nonprofits with grants from the club.

You can download the Big Fore Sponsor trifold brochure here, and print copies will be available at this week's meeting. Questions? Reach out to any of the Golf Committee organizers for help, and thank you in advance for doing your part to make this year's event a big success!

FAMILY OF ROTARY

Lewisville Noon was thrilled to see Dean Ueckert back at Bistecca last week for the first time in months. Please continue to keep Dean in your prayers as he undergoes radiation treatments for throat cancer.

Please also continue to pray for club member Karen Johns, that God would bring her back to perfect health and provide open doors for a new job opportunity to meet her financial needs.

Lastly, please lift up Sheila Collins' daughter, Tiffany, in prayer. She is undergoing a complex series of treatments for her pancreas and needs to first gain weight prior to a transplant procedure.

You can send any specific prayer requests or praise reports to be included here to Audrey Stansbury at audreystansbury@gmail.com.
