Festive Valentine's Celebration at Lewisville Noon Club

Rotarian Fred Whitfield kicked off a fun and festive Valentine's Day program last week, as he serenaded the ladies of the Lewisville Noon club with a heartfelt rendition of “You Are So Beautiful.” He was followed by president elect Sue Bowman, who doled out interesting trivia about the Day of Love, such as the fact that 250 million roses are grown just for Valentine’s Day, and that the first Valentine was sent from prison.

Angie Cox then stepped up as emcee, calling on five fellow Rotarians to share what they love about Rotary and why they joined.

Gary Lewis noted that he originally joined the Park Central Rotary club in Dallas in the 1980s before moving to the Lewisville Noon club. “I enjoy raising money” for charities, Lewis said, adding that Rotary has the authority and resources to give generously to the community.

Lewisville police officer Rachel Roberts dovetailed on the theme of philanthropy as she walked to the front of the room. “My husband and I go a lot of charity events and do a lot of volunteering,” said Officer Roberts. When she visited the Lewisville Noon club, she saw all the same people she sees at local fundraisers and decided to become a member, she said.

“I’ve never been more warmly embraced by any group I’ve visited and had the opportunity to speak to,” noted Greg Ballentine, who spoke next, adding that Rotary feels like family to him. “I love that this group can disagree without being disagreeable,” he said, adding, “Everyone is focused on what is best.”

Past LNR president Dennis Song and Joe Irick also shared their recollections about why they joined Rotary and a few fun facts about themselves. Sue Bowman and Carol Longacre then closed out the meeting by leading a round of Valentine’s bingo, won by Joe Willard, who received a tasty dessert as his prize. This year's lighthearted Valentine's Day program full of sweet treats won't soon be forgotten!

Rotary District 5790 Governor-elect Andy Eads has named Lewisville Noon's own Mary Jennings and Bill Lawrence as Assistant District Governors for 2025-2026. The announcement came on the heels of news that Angie Cox will succeed Eads as District Governor in 2026-27. The club extends heartfelt congratulations to these stellar Rotarians, who will undoubtedly serve with excellence.
Dennis Song Seeking Brain Fog Study Participants

Past LNR club president Dennis Song is seeking people interested in joining an eight-week clinical trial concerning “brain fog” caused by Covid, Menopause, chemotherapy or another brain injury, such as a stroke.

Participants will receive three pharmaceutical grade supplements: Omega from algae, a probiotic, and a brain function antioxidant formula. At the beginning of the study and every two weeks, Dennis will conduct an assessment using a standardized cognition test call MOCA and a survey. Researchers will use this test to evaluate whether cognition is improving or declining. Participants will receive the supplements at no cost along with a stipend for participating.

To learn more or enroll in the study, please contact Dennis Song, RPh, CHC, at 972.355.4614 or dennis@flowermoundpharmacy.com.
