Julie Wright, Community Health Improvement Program Manager - Denton & Wise Counties at Texas Health Resources, gave an informative presentation at last week's meeting about the Texas Health Community Impact (THCI) program. Through the program, Texas Health Resources awards up to $5 million in grants to provide health care services beyond hospital walls for people in need throughout our local communities. Texas Health Community Impact, together with community leaders, pinpoints specific ZIP codes to address social determinants of health before the resulting problems surface in the form of chronic disease and premature death. The initiative calls on agencies from different sectors in communities — education, health care, cities, grassroots organizations and others — to unite against identified issues.
